"Autumn Leaves". Gilmore Girls. Maple Frosted Donuts. Harry Potter. It's fall y'all!
Welcome back to Mac Claire, your curated destination for all things Music, Arts & Culture. This Thursday I'm bringing you a special feature called Mac Fall Favorites, which is timely since it's officially fall! The compiled list below includes my favorite pieces of fall music, art, movies, television, books, and treats. This list will not include Halloween-related items, however, because I'll be doing a separate Halloween feature in October! The best part about favorites, though, is that you can always have more. I'm planning to find many new things to love this fall and hopefully I'll be able to write about them next year! Well- no more babbling, let's get on to the list!
Music
Autumn in Bruges, Randy Oppenheim
Autumn Leaves, Ed Sheeran
Autumn in New York, Vernon Duke (duet version with Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong)
Autumn Leaves, Joseph Kosma (version with Nat King Cole)
Sweater Weather, The Neighbourhood
Wake Me Up When September Ends, Green Day
Autumn Almanac, The Kinks
Though these songs are all from different genres (classical, pop, jazz, etc.), they share the sense of fall through their lyrics, tone, and autumn aesthetic.
Art
"Autumn Leaves, Lake George" (1924) by Georgia O'Keeffe
"October" (1878) by James Tissot
"Autumn in a City" by Vaselina Kolomyiko
Holly Nichols Illustration Fall Designs
"Alley by the Lake" by Leonid Afremov
This selection of art shows interpretations of fall across time, from the Victorian era to modern day. No matter the year, every artist relates to fall through the yellow and orange hues, whipping leaves, crisp, misty nights, and layered fashion. A special note regarding Holly Nichols Illustration- in addition to selling prints and digital images, Holly has a Friday Freebies subscription list where you can get one free artwork (like this one) weekly as a digital download! https://www.hnicholsillustration.com/
(Artworks are presented in the order they are listed)
Movies
Hallmark Channel Fall Harvest Movies
Harry Potter Film Series
Little Women (2019)
The people at Hallmark Channel excel in providing festive holiday and seasonal movies, and their fall premieres are no exception. Fall Harvest movies began airing last weekend and will continue throughout October. While Harry Potter and Little Women (which funnily both star Emma Watson) do not take place solely in the fall, their fall scenes add to each movie immensely. Little Women was filmed across New England and features stunning foliage, and with all of its' wizarding world items like Pumpkin Pasties, Ghosts, Witches and Wizards, giant pumpkins and more, Harry Potter exudes major fall vibes.

Television
Gilmore Girls
Taking place in the small, fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, Gilmore Girls has numerous charming, fall episodes featuring town festivals, college events, fantastic decorations, and a zany, beloved cast of characters.
Books
Harry Potter Book Series
I must admit that I've been a little slow on my reading lately, so I apologize for this short list. I've picked out some good books that I want to get through this fall and will hopefully be able to recommend next year though! Additionally I must mention that while Harry Potter is a beloved book and movie series, the joy has been recently tainted by the controversial, harmful comments and views of its' author and creator. To continue enjoying Harry Potter without supporting the author/creator, check out the books and movies from your local library or borrow them from a friend instead of buying new ones. Support small businesses that create unlicensed Harry Potter apparel when looking for merchandise; be an overall conscious consumer.
Treats
Apple Cider Float
Apple Pie
Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte from Dunkin'
Butternut Squash Soup
Maple Frosted Donut from Dunkin'
Never had an Apple Cider Float before? Try it this year! This delectable drink is available at many apple orchards, but if you want to make your own it's as easy as pie! I recommend using Friendly's French Vanilla ice cream and then all you have to do is top it off with some ice-cold apple cider. While some of the other items on this list can be found at chain restaurants like Dunkin' and Panéra, I highly suggest seeing if any local restaurants and cafés in your area have the same items on their menu! Small businesses need all the support they can get during these tough times.
Well, that's it folks! Reviewing my Fall Favorites was a blast- I hope you enjoyed looking through the list and maybe you'll find a new fall favorite from it!
