Mac Weekly Highlight 1.10.2021

Happy Monday and welcome back to Mac Claire, your curated destination for all things Music, Arts & Culture! I don't know about you, but I had quite the busy weekend! This past Sunday I announced on my social media pages that I will be starting to add more Harry Potter 🧙🏻‍♂️ content to Mac Claire in the future since it is my favorite pop culture fandom. Do not fret if you're not a Harry Potter fan though- I'll still be providing you with the regular content that you come here for every week and that's what we're here for today!

In today's Mac Weekly Highlight I'm showcasing a song that topped the charts this past week and one of my favorite yearly televised sporting events. Let's get to these highlights!

Music

drivers license, Olivia Rodrigo

I'm sure I'm not the first person to be introducing this song to you since it grew in popularity like wildfire, but drivers license by Olivia Rodrigo is a must-listen! 17-year-old Rodrigo is best known for her role on the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and now has a hit that received over 17 million streams in its first week and reached number one in 6 countries. The music video was wildly popular as well. The song tells the story of young heartbreak, which everyone knows is just as raw and hurtful (if not more than) as heartbreak at any age. You can hear the cry in Rodrigo's voice in this powerful ballad, which she said drew inspiration from the likes of Taylor Swift and Lorde. This song has definitely made its mark. The link to the YouTube video is provided below and I will be adding drivers license to my Mac Weekly Highlight Playlist on Spotify as well.

Television, Pop Culture & Sports

2021 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships

I don't usually talk about sports here at Mac Claire since I cover the world of Music, Arts & Culture, but when a certain sporting event is a huge part of popular culture (like the Super Bowl, the Olympics, the Kentucky Derby, etc.) it enters into my realm. I love watching the Olympics and one of my favorite sports to follow within the Olympic circuit is figure skating. Though the next Winter Games is not until 2022, there are always other competitions happening and the 2021 U.S. Figure Skating Championships took place in Las Vegas this past weekend (with many precautions due to the Pandemic). This competition is the best place for skaters to get noticed for the U.S. Olympic Team. It's amazing to see the combination of artistry and athleticism that the United States' skaters have and I always enjoy seeing what music choices the athletes use for their skates. If you missed the Championships but would still like to see it, you can watch it on NBC's new streaming service Peacock.
