Happy Monday and welcome back to Mac Claire, your curated destination for all things Music, Arts & Culture. It's officially October, friends- how exciting!! This past week I put out my Halloween decorations and continued working on my Halloween Favorites special feature, which will be published this coming Thursday evening. Today though, we're here to talk about my Mac Weekly Highlight! This week's best finds in Music, Arts & Culture include the Dior Spring-Summer 2021 Show, "We Are More Than A Moment" by Genevieve Gaignard, and The Great British Baking Show.

Dior Spring-Summer 2021 Show
This past week the House of Dior opened up Paris Fashion Week with a striking presentation of their Spring-Summer 2021 Collection. Since her tenure as Creative Director at Dior began, Maria Grazia Chiuri has been giving audiences more than just a runway show; it's an experience. The SS21 Collection included designs that were patterned through the Ikat style in earthy tones and was presented in a cathedral-like setting. The "cathedral of poetry", as it is known, was a project by Italian visual artist Lucia Marcucci that never came to fruition. The models walked down the runway to Sangu di Rosa by Lucia Ronchetti, performed by the Sequenza 9.3 vocal ensemble and conducted by Catherine Simonpietri. The dresses worn by the ensemble singers had a printed text design; a manifesto by artist Marcucci. As expected, the House of Dior show was a stunning experience filled with feminist art, writing, music, and fashion.

"We Are More Than A Moment", Genevieve Gaignard
I came across this multimedia work while reading my September issue of Vogue this past week, and was struck by its' simplistic beauty and the juxtaposition of dainty, floral wallpaper against a vibrant, neon message. "We Are More Than A Moment" is composed of Neon and vintage wallpaper on Panel and has a powerful impact in this time of global hardship, growing social justice movements, and activism of all kinds. Gaignard has been known to explore identity in her art and, as described on her website, her work "blends humor, persona, and popular culture to reveal the ways in which the meeting and mixing of contrasting realities can feel much like displacement."

The Great British Baking Show
The Great British Baking Show (also known as The Great British Bake-Off) is one of my absolute favorite shows. A reality baking competition show, it is upbeat, scrumptious, comedic, and makes your heart happy! The new season premiered on Channel 4 in the UK and was added to Netflix a few days later for non-British viewers, and it's truly a "baking experiment" this year. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the contestants will be staying on-site at the filming location in a sort of "bubble" instead of going home between the weekly competitions. Those who make it to the very end of the competition will be away from their loved ones for well over a month. Even with the new changes, The Great British Baking Show continues to be a bright spot in an mainly gloomy year. Happy viewing, and here's hoping that there are no "soggy bottoms" this season!
