New York Fashion Week
This past week (technically September 11th through 16th) was New York Fashion Week! Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic it was different from years past, but the shows still went on! Designers showing off their Spring/Summer 2021 collections all had varied approaches; some still gave runway shows, but the settings were outdoors/open-air with limited attendees and mask requirements. Others created video presentations in the form of short films, behind-the-scenes-style vlogs, and video lookbooks set to music. It was great to see the creativity and resiliency of the fashion industry during this difficult time. My favorite presentations from NYFW were RVNG, Badgley Mischka, Cinq á Sept, Rebecca Minkoff, N. Peal, and Christian Siriano. Did you miss the New York Fashion Week presentations or want to see one I just mentioned? Head to the NYFW app to watch the shows!

"RBG Pink", June August
On Friday evening we learned of the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an iconic female figure in American law and a United States Supreme Court Justice. Politics aside, no one can deny this woman's contributions to American society and history. This 2018 screenprint, "RBG Pink", is an artwork by June August honoring Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Though not on view, the print is in the collection at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and can be seen on their website.

"Synesthesia" Series, The Curator's Pick
Those of you who have been reading since I started this blog back in August may remember that I am a Musician and Music Instructor by day. When I was in college studying Voice, I put together Pinterest boards with images that helped me feel the aesthetic of songs I was learning. I was thrilled when I saw the "Synesthesia" series by The Curator's Pick, because it reminded me of my college days. The "Synesthesia" series is vice versa, however; the viewer is presented with an artwork and a playlist of songs that fit the aesthetic and mood of that work. The series includes six works: "New York Movie" by Edward Hopper, "Untitled (Couple in the Park)" by Tyler Mitchell, "A Whistle in a Wish" by Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, "Fit for a King" by Adrienne Raquel, "River at Night" by Matthew Wong, and "Coffee" by Richard Dieberkorn. Each corresponding playlist, created by curator Dani Yan, can be found on Spotify. To read more about the connection between each work and its' corresponding playlist, head to the The Curator's Pick website (https://www.thecuratorspick.com/).

ACM Awards
Sometimes you just need a night to relax with some feel-good country music, and that's exactly what the Academy of Country Music Awards brought us last Wednesday night. Hosted by Keith Urban and with no attendees/country music fans in any venue, the awards were broadcasted from three separate, iconic locations in Nashville: the Bluebird Cafe, the Ryman Auditorium, and the Grand Ole Opry House. While awards were given out, the primary focus was on the music and we were treated to performances by Luke Bryan, Dan & Shay, Gabby Barrett, Kane Brown, Maren Morris, Old Dominion, Luke Combs, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift (who returned to the ACM stage for the first time in seven years), and many more. If you missed it, the ACMs can be watched on CBS All Access!
